EXPANDED OFFERING FROM SIKA

With its acquisition of Parex, Sika is reaffirming its commitment to the Irish construction sector

In 2019, Sika acquired Parex, a leading mortar manufacturer with an impressive track record of profitable growth. The acquisition has, says John Sheridan, Managing Director at Sika, been a game changer. “It has given us access to a whole new range of façade solutions. Before the acquisition, our aim had been to strengthen our position within the building facades space; with the Parex acquisition, we’ve achieved that.”

Officially distributed through Tradecraft Building Products, Sika now supplies a range of coloured facade renders and external wall insulation solutions, all fully IAB and NSA certified and approved. “The fact that the range meets such high standards in terms of quality was crucial; it allows us to participate in the SEAI grant assistance schemes, including the Warmer Homes scheme. To be able to give homeowners the opportunity to avail of these grants is important to us and indeed it’s important for the wider construction industry. Making our homes more energy efficient and raising insulation standards across Ireland’s housing stock will help reduce the industry’s carbon footprint.”

As a member of the Irish Green Building Council, Sika takes its commitment to sustainability very seriously. With new, greener methods of construction coming to market all the time, Sika is well placed to meet a growing demand for high quality products that significantly reduce energy consumption and make structures sustainable. “The Parex range includes products that can go onto all types of systems, whether it be sheeting boards for modular construction or insulated formwork for housing. We now have a varied and diverse range of options for our customers.”

Parex’ product offering includes facade mortars, tile adhesives and waterproofing mortars. “All of the products from the Parex range are technologically advanced; they’re solutions-focused products and we offer our customers training and assistance on how best to use them. The range is proving a hit with our customers, we’re delighted with the response so far.” The acquisition has also reaffirmed Sika’s commitment to the Irish construction sector and underlined its efforts to always bring only
the best products to market.

“Along with our own products, the Parex range provides contractors and end users with more choice and a high-quality, trusted range whose expertise has been proven in the building finishing markets. Sika and Parex are two very strong companies; in terms of quality and channel penetration, our product ranges complement each other. With this acquisition, we have expanded our product portfolio for the building finishing market, further strengthening our position in construction chemicals and creating cross-selling synergies.”

Going forward, the ambition is to grow the Parex range of products in Ireland and to continue to develop the relationship between Parex and Sika. “On their own, they were two strong brands but together, they’re a much stronger entity. Sika already has a strong presence in the waterproofing space and in roofing with sheet membranes and liquid applied roofing systems. With Parex joining our portfolio of products, we’ve now got the opportunity to put our stamp on buildings facades as well. We’re in a position to offer our customers a full suite of solutions for the full envelope of a building.”
