URGENT CALL FOR INCREASED USE OF TIMBER IN IRISH CONSTRUCTION
In light of the latest announcement from the Climate Change Advisory Council (CCAC), there is a pressing call to increase the use of timber in the construction of new builds in Ireland. The CCAC’s Annual Review 2022 (page 106) indicates that timber frame construction accounted for less than 25% of new homes built in Ireland, compared to over 70% in the developed world and 80% in Scotland. This discrepancy highlights a significant growth opportunity for Ireland.

Timber is not just a trend but a sustainable solution that is gaining traction in many construction applications. This is particularly relevant as the Irish government plans to build more houses than initially anticipated to meet high housing demand. The speed and sustainability benefits of timber are making it an increasingly popular choice.
