LAYHER IRELAND AT THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL SCAFFOLDING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Layher Ireland and JLD Access, a Trim, Co. Meath based scaffolding company, recently made a big impression globally while representing Ireland at the Third International Scaffolding Championships. Based in the picturesque city of Vilnius, Lithuania and organised by the Baltic Scaffolding Association, the event featured fifteen teams from all ends of the world – even as far as Mongolia. Over 400 guests from 20 countries were in attendance.

Taking place on May 26th and 27th, a strong Irish contingent made the journey to Lithuania. Patrick McGahan, Michael McCabe, Seánna Hopkins and Julie Starkie represented Layher Ireland. Khristian Harris, Josh Harris (Captain), Damien Loran, Dylan Farrell, Scott O’Leary and Charlie O’Connor were those chosen to represent their country at this prestigious event. Fergus Sheerin of the Midlands Skills Centre, who tutors the national scaffolding apprenticeship, was appointed as one of the referees of the competition.

The championship teams were split into three groups. The Irish team were drawn to take part in the second round. A drawing of the structure was presented to the teams a day prior to the event and the hard work began deciding on the best approach to take. In total, including penalties, the Irish team managed to both erect and dismantle their structure in one hour, twenty minutes and thirty seconds.

Although their efforts finished them just outside the top three this year, the team’s involvement astounded many spectators. The Irish team from JLD Access were a significantly younger age demographic than any other participants. Many spectators, both in person and online have expressed praise and best wishes for the ability and dedication displayed by this team.

Layher Ireland and the JLD Access team now looks forward to making a comeback at the 2024 championships.
