• Generation Apprenticeship competition is sponsored by ESB, CIF and supported by SOLAS and the national Apprenticeship Council
Now in its second year the Generation Apprenticeship competition celebrates the best teamwork, leadership, creativity and problem-solving skills of Ireland’s apprentices. The competition challenges teams of apprentices around the country to design and produce a 6-foot, 3-dimensional A letter (based on the Generation Apprenticeship brand) using the materials/ equipment/tools of their industry. The entries are assessed by an independent panel of judges.
The nine finalist teams represent the efforts of more than 100 apprentices who are supported by more than 100 companies. “The exhibition is a skills spectacle and is relevant to everyone because today’s apprentices are drawn from every, age, background and gender, said Dr Mary-Liz Trant, Executive Director for Skills Development at SOLAS.

Visitors to the exhibition in the Atrium of National College of Ireland will see examples of skill application from people who are following apprenticeships across a broad spectrum of twenty-first century industries. Gina Quin, President of National College of Ireland said: “We are proud to host this exhibition of apprenticeship sculptures, representing apprentices across Ireland, and displaying not just skillsets and creativity, but also problem-solving. Each individual apprenticeship sculpture must convey their discipline within the constraints of a letter ‘A’. Generation Apprenticeship truly showcases teamwork and healthy competition.”
ESB is sponsoring the competition for a second year. Peter O’ Shea, Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs, ESB said: “In Ireland, apprenticeship is already a first choice for over 15,000 people who are meeting the demand for skills in a range of jobs such as Electricians, Engineers, Data Analysts, Software Developers, Chefs and many more. Anyone who wants to continue learning, at any stage of life will get a lot from attending the exhibition. Come along and be inspired.”
