MINISTER HEYDON ANNOUNCES EXTENSION TO PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, has announced a one-week extension to the public consultation opened in February on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) post-2027.

The consultation, which was launched to gather views from farmers, stakeholders and members of the public on Ireland’s priorities for the next CAP, will now remain open until 27 March 2026.

Announcing the extension, Minister Heydon said: “I am pleased to extend the deadline for submissions to the CAP post-2027 public consultation. This will provide additional time for stakeholders and members of the public to engage with the process and share their views on the future direction of the CAP.”

The Minister emphasised the importance of broad participation in shaping Ireland’s position in the ongoing EU negotiations: “The CAP plays a vital role in supporting farm incomes, strengthening rural communities, contributing to food security and delivering environmental outcomes. As discussions on the next CAP continue at EU level, it is important that we hear from as many voices as possible to help inform Ireland’s approach.”

The public consultation is a key element of the Department’s ongoing engagement process and will help inform Ireland’s priorities as negotiations on the CAP post-2027 proposals progress.

Minister Heydon encouraged all interested parties to take part: “I would encourage all stakeholders, including farmers, industry representatives, environmental organisations and members of the public, to make a submission and have their say on the future of agricultural policy in Ireland and across the European Union.”

Submissions may be made online through the consultation questionnaire and sent to post2027capconsultation@agriculture.gov.ie. The new deadline for receipt of submissions is 5pm on Friday, 27 March 2026.
