LAUNCH OF SLIDE RAIL SHORING BY WESTPORT EQUIPMENT

Westport Equipment Limited, the specialist equipment rental business managed by Liam Brew & Ruairi O’Neill, is expanding its range of quality construction solutions for hire

The latest addition is Single and Double Slide Rail Shoring for excavation support from the leading German brand SBH. Slide Rail offers an alternative to using vertically driven trench sheets, with frames for temporary earth support of large four-sided pits and two-sided trench-runs. The system comprises of a small number of large and extremely robust steel components and vertical king posts which accept panels of varying width for earth support and which can be brought down with the excavation as it progresses. Liam Brew, Director commented: “As an independent Irish owned business, we are proud to have made this purchase of premium engineered shoring equipment from SBH in Germany. We are confident that this fleet of equipment will be very attractive to our civil engineering and construction customers. Once again, we are choosing innovative and unique engineered solutions and are first to market with them in Ireland. We look forward to further increasing this fleet in the coming years ahead.”

SLIDE RAIL

A key benefit in using Slide Rail for trench-runs is the large strut clearance height and as there are no sheet piles in use, there is no vibration or associated risks and unforeseen delays common with piling operations. The use of these large Slide Rail Shoring components allows an excavation to be established very quickly. The contractor benefits from major programme savings and the removal of risky sheet piling operations. As the components are large and robust, there will be far less likelihood of damage to the shoring equipment and costly loss of small components, which is a common problem and unforeseen expense with other shoring methods.

Side Rail Shoring is versatile enough to be used on many types of jobs including excavations near existing utilities or structures that are vulnerable to vibration, pump stations around water or waste treatment works, areas with very poor ground conditions and installation of off-site manufactured tanks.

A full temporary works design service is available and drawing and calculations can be provided for any enquiries. The team at Westport Equipment have more than 20 years’ experience in excavation shoring and can provide advice and guidance on the best method to install the temporary works. A key area of focus for Ruairi and Liam will be demonstrating the brand-new fleet of Slide Rail Shoring to utilities, civil and construction contractors in Ireland. The new fleet is available for hire from the Dunboyne Depot and is successfully in use on pipeline work in Munster, with excellent customer feedback.

The existing Groundworks range at Westport Equipment includes Lightweight Manhole Boxes, City Boxes and Standard Shields, Edge Protection Systems, Road Plates and Trench Struts.
