GUARANTEED IRISH FOREST KILKENNY | NATIVE TREE PLANTING INITIATIVE

The Guaranteed Irish Forest in Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny is thriving, with thousands of native Irish trees showing strong growth just one year after planting.

Established on a 12-hectare site, the woodland includes a variety of native species such as oak, birch, hazel and ash. Despite challenging winter weather conditions, the saplings have developed well, with early signs of growth clearly visible, including the distinctive leaves of young oak trees.

Native Tree Planting Supporting Biodiversity in Ireland

The Guaranteed Irish Forest forms part of a wider climate action and biodiversity initiative in Ireland, aimed at restoring native woodlands and supporting local ecosystems.

Native tree species play a crucial role in enhancing biodiversity:

Oak trees can support over 2,300 species, including birds, insects and fungi
Holly trees provide essential food and shelter for wildlife during winter
Birch trees improve soil health and help absorb carbon dioxide

Planting native trees contributes to carbon capture, habitat restoration, and long-term environmental sustainability across Ireland.

Creating a New Community Green Space in Kilkenny

Over time, the forest will develop into a valuable community green space in Kilkenny, offering benefits for both physical and mental wellbeing.

Once established, the woodland will be accessible to local communities, providing a natural environment for recreation, education, and connection with nature.

Managed by An Taisce for Long-Term Environmental Impact

Climate action
Biodiversity protection
Community engagement

This approach supports the long-term success of the project as a sustainable woodland development in Ireland.
