CYGNUM AGREES DEAL TO BE ACQUIRED BY GRAFTON GROUP PLC – IRISH CONSTRUCTION NEWS

STRENGTHENING FUTURE GROWTH AND CUSTOMER OFFERING

Cygnum Holdings Ltd [‘Cygnum’], the specialist supplier and installer of timber frame structures to the Irish housebuilding industry, is pleased to announce that, subject to approval by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) in Ireland, it will be acquired by Grafton Group plc, owner of Chadwicks Group.

Grafton intends to operate Cygnum alongside Chadwicks, its market-leading distribution business in the Republic of Ireland. The acquisition represents a significant and positive milestone for the business, its employees, customers, and suppliers.

Cygnum is one of the largest Timber Frame manufacturers in Ireland with a strong reputation for quality, reliability and technical expertise. Based in Macroom, Co. Cork, the company was established in 1997. In 2025, it supplied and installed circa 1,250 timber frame housing units and a recent investment programme has increased that capacity to circa 2,500
units per annum.

John Desmond, Managing Director, Cygnum Holdings Ltd, said: “This is a hugely positive step for our business, customers and employees. We have built a strong and loyal customer base by consistently delivering high-quality timber frame solutions. Becoming part of Chadwicks Group gives us the backing, scale, and strategic support to accelerate our growth, while maintaining the service levels and relationships our customers value”.

Patrick Atkinson, Chief Executive, Chadwicks Group, said: “We are very pleased to have agreed a deal to acquire this well-established and well-respected business. Cygnum offers tangible solutions for faster, more efficient delivery of new homes to help address Ireland’s structural housing shortage. Subject to regulatory approval, we look forward to welcoming Cygnum’s staff and experienced management team to Chadwicks Group.”

The business will continue to operate under its existing management team and brand ensuring continuity for customers and employees. Day-to-day operations remain unchanged, with the acquisition focused on strengthening long-term capability and growth. This strategic move reinforces both companies’ commitment to supporting the evolving needs of the housebuilding industry through quality, innovation, and partnership.
