Sisk engineering the future – John Sisk & Son (Sisk), Ireland’s largest construction company celebrated Engineers Week with a structured programme at their head office on the Naas Road. Sisk invited 22 transition year students from twelve local secondary schools into their business for two days.
Some of the highlights for the pupils included, travelling to the Sisk Cherrywood project in South Dublin, learning basic engineering principals and making flower boxes in the John G. Sisk Joinery & Training Centre.
Victor O’Shea, regional engineering associate, Sisk, said: “This is the first year we have put a structured plan in place for Engineers Week and the feedback has been very positive. A lot of hard work went in from the Sisk team to ensure the pupils got the most benefit out of their two-day visit.
“There is currently a shortage of skilled construction workers in Ireland. Sisk as an employer takes a leading role to promote the construction sector with initiatives like this to attract young males and females into the sector. Whether it be by the traditional apprenticeship route through our joinery & training centre or by completing a college degree, there is a tried and tested career path for young people within Sisk.”
