RAINSAFE STORMWATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Since its launch nearly a year ago by CubicM3, RainSafe has quickly become the preferred choice for underground stormwater solutions.

RainSafe is a fully certified high-performance underground attenuation, infiltration, and detention system designed to prevent flooding, enhance water quality, and protect critical infrastructure. The system was developed in Ireland by CubicM3 to European design code with the intent from the outset to set the standard.

Market-leading Experience
CubicM3 was established in Dublin in 2003 and quickly became Ireland’s leading provider of sustainable engineered solutions to the construction industry for water management and renewable energy. The company expanded and to date has completed thousands of successful projects throughout Ireland, the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East and Australia.

With strength in engineering and a customer focus, CubicM3 has developed a reputation for reliability and value engineering. Over the years, the company has introduced and distributed many leading products to the construction industry here and along the way has gained an unrivalled level of technical experience, particularly in stormwater management products. That knowledge, coupled with a deep understanding of customer needs and the lack of willingness from existing manufacturers to take on suggested improvements led the company to take the bold step of developing their own product range – RainSafe.

Designed in Ireland for the European Market
CubicM3’s objective from the outset was to develop products that comply with the most stringent Eurocode requirements for traffic loading and deep cover installations. The company was also acutely aware of the impacts both to lead time and carbon footprint of importing products from outside the EU, namely the US or Asia, and put extensive work into optimising stacking and packing efficiency and sourcing a manufacturing location within the EU with a view to minimising carbon footprint.

The results are impressive:
• RainSafe’s advanced structural design meets the Eurocode LM1 and LM2 for heavy traffic loading (as updated in 2020 application to consider multiple axles and multiple directions of travel) and improves deep cover loading capacity by over 65% and 85% by comparison with similar chambers already in the market;
• RainSafe can be delivered to anywhere in the EU within a week from order, cutting over 80% off the lead times for similar products coming from Asia or the US and also avoiding tariffs and import duties.
• RainSafe also reduces journey distances by 80% or more compared to the same products while also reducing plastic usage by optimising structural efficiency and improving packing efficiency. All in this provides a significant reduction in embodied carbon, in line with the targets for embodied carbon reduction for construction materials outlined in Ireland’s Climate Action Plan.
Independently Tested and Fully Certified
As underground stormwater management systems do not yet fall under any Harmonised European Standards the question of certification arises frequently on projects. Products in this situation must carry a valid European Agrément Certificate. CubicM3 opted to work with CSTB, the French national standards authority, for this given their unrivalled experience of assessing corrugated arch type systems and rigorous approvals process. RainSafe’s structural design and capacity were independently evaluated by Advanced Geotechnics Ltd, Ireland’s leading geotechnical firm. To achieve CSTB certification RainSafe underwent exhaustive testing and assessment of its material, the finished product the manufacturing facilities and processes and quality control systems, all of which were passed with flying colours.

First Birthday Celebrations
Since its launch RainSafe has been well received by Engineers and Contractors alike and has already become a staple in stormwater management specifications. “While most of our customers trust CubicM3’s experience and have welcomed the introduction of our own product range its fair and expected that any new product being introduced to the market will undergo a healthy level of scrutiny – we welcome this and are happy to answer any technical questions on RainSafe in particular and provide Engineers’ Ireland approved CPD training in SUDS and Stormwater Management generally” says Justin Elliott, Managing Director at CubicM3. Not even a year in CubicM3 have carried out nearly 300 projects using RainSafe in 32 counties within Ireland and across 4 countries. Further, in the current geo-political climate, this is a success story for Irish R&D creating jobs for both Ireland and EU manufacturing partners and opening the door for further product development. Seeing the rewards of their innovation, the future looks bright for CubicM3 – or, as their brochure says: “the future is green!”.
