JONES ENGINEERING MARKS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY WITH COMPANY-WIDE INITIATIVES AND PRESIDENTIAL VISIT AT SCIENCE BLAST 2026

Jones Engineering marked International Women’s Day 2026 with a series of company-wide initiatives celebrating progress in female representation, alongside its participation in ESB Science Blast at the RDS, Dublin, where the company was honoured to welcome President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, to its exhibition stand.

As International Women’s Day shines a spotlight on progress and opportunity, Jones Engineering is celebrating continued growth in female participation across its workforce well above the current industry average, with a clear ambition to increase this further.

Increasing female participation in engineering and construction remains a strategic priority for the company. Through sustained investment in graduate, internship and apprenticeship programmes, and by supporting national initiatives such as I Wish, TU Dublin’s TrailblazHER Programme, Science Blast and CIF Women in Construction, Jones Engineering continues to actively champion inclusion across the sector.

Chief People Officer Carmel Walsh said:
“Encouraging more women to pursue careers in STEM is not just about achieving gender balance, it’s about fostering innovation, strengthening teams, and driving progress in a rapidly evolving industry. International Women’s Day provides an important opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come and to reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive engineering sector for the future.”

International Women’s Day at Jones Engineering
This year’s global theme, Give to Gain, resonated strongly across the organisation. To mark the occasion, Jones Engineering hosted an internal webinar with Formula 1 strategist and broadcaster Bernie Collins, who shared insights into resilience, high-performance decision-making and navigating a traditionally male-dominated industry.

In place of internal gifts or events, the company also made a corporate donation to Women’s Aid, supporting its vital work protecting women and children affected by domestic abuse.

Alongside these activities, Jones Engineering continues to engage students at an early stage through outreach initiatives. Transition Year work experience placements are now evenly balanced between male and female students, helping to normalise engineering as a career path for young women from the outset.

Inspiring the Next Generation at Science Blast 2026
Jones Engineering was proud to once again host an interactive stand at ESB Science Blast, a national STEM event designed to foster curiosity and innovation among primary school students.

During the event, the company welcomed President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, to its stand. The President met with Jones apprentices and engineers, observed student activities, and was impressed by the interactive demonstrations showcasing how engineering innovation is shaping Ireland’s future.

Students visiting the stand engaged in hands-on engineering challenges and demonstrations designed to demystify the profession and showcase real-world applications of mechanical and electrical engineering. By meeting engineers and apprentices directly, students gained practical insight into the diverse and rewarding career pathways available.

By combining structured internal supports, national partnerships, and early engagement through initiatives like Science Blast and Transition Year placements, Jones Engineering is working to ensure that more young women see engineering as a viable, exciting and future-focused career.

On this International Women’s Day, Jones Engineering reaffirms its commitment to creating pathways where women can enter, grow and lead within engineering and construction.
