€1.6 MILLION INVESTMENT TRANSFORMS DÚN AONGHASA VISITOR CENTRE ON THE ARAN ISLANDS
A major €1.6 million redevelopment of the visitor centre at Dún Aonghasa has officially been unveiled, delivering a significantly enhanced tourism and heritage experience on the Aran Islands.
The upgraded visitor centre was officially opened by Kevin Moran, Peter Burke, Caroline Bocquel and Michael Mac Donagh.
The redevelopment was delivered through a strategic partnership between the Office of Public Works, Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Enhanced Visitor Experience at One of Ireland’s Most Important Heritage Sites
Located on the edge of a dramatic 100-metre Atlantic cliff on Árainn in County Galway, Dún Aonghasa is one of Ireland’s most significant prehistoric monuments, dating back more than 3,000 years to the Bronze and Iron Ages.
Recognised internationally for its impressive dry-stone fortifications and unique archaeological landscape, the site remains a major attraction along the Wild Atlantic Way and welcomes over 125,000 visitors annually.
The upgraded visitor centre now provides a modern, immersive and fully accessible gateway experience for visitors travelling to the iconic cliff-top fort.
