Irish construction firm Sammon Group has been officially recognised as one of Ireland’s Best Places to Work in the major national workplace awards programme overseen globally by the Great Place to Work Institute.

The Best Workplace Awards recognise Ireland’s most engaging, progressive and productive workplaces. Listed workplaces are selected and ranked by the Great Place to Work Institute mainly on the basis of confidential input from the employees of that organisation, plus a company-wide audit of organisational culture. Companies cannot be included on the list unless a clear majority of employees consider their organisation to be a great workplace.

As well as a dedicated employee engagement programme, Sammon also implemented a social and wellness activity programme based on this work. In the current year, the company is organising free health screening for all employees, free flu vaccinations, a Bike to Work scheme and improved cycling facilities.

A number of additional health and wellbeing initiatives are also at the planning stage. These include plans to make health and lifestyle benefits available to employees free of charge. Benefits will include nutritional and dietary planning for employees, discounted fitness memberships as well as company fitness and health challenges. The company will also be engaging with workers on the redesign of its Kilcock headquarters. Sammon are keen to create an employee-inspired workplace.

New social engagement activities are also being planned for 2018. The company hopes to establish a volunteering programme for employees to assist local charities and a voluntary employee blood donation scheme with the Irish Blood Transfusion Service.
